So fucking sick of it

I knew it. I fucking knew it. DBKL just loves to cordon off open spaces for no apparent reason and turning it into a car park for decades until a developer comes along to, well, develop the land. It happened with Chan Ah Tong field, Taman Merdeka and now, the ex-Unilever land opposite Bangsar LRT Station.

I know that the public land has been sold off to a private developer but still, to lease the land to a car park operator in the interim rather than let it be used for a playing field smacks greed and disregard for any kind of human development.

You know what else I’m sick of… that LRT and MRT are used for the benefit of property developer rather than for the rakyat. After researching for ’empty’ lands around KL to be converted into urban parks, I began to notice a very strange trend – that the vast, empty land is connected to some form of public transport whereas places with high human activities are ignored.

For e.g., the ex-Pekeliling Flat area is connected to two forms of public transport – the LRT and the monorail.  Why would those rail lines connect through a ghost town? Is it because our crony loving government had awarded its crony developer 58 acres of Pekeliling land back in 1999? The rail lines will obviously hike up the selling price of whatever development that is going to take place over there.

I mean think about it – why didn’t the LRT pass through the more popular, higher human density area at Jalan Tun Razak? There’s Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, Istana Budaya, National Art Gallery, National Blood Bank, National Heart Institute and the GENERAL freaking HOSPITAL OF KUALA LUMPUR (which is one of the biggest hospital in Asia, btw).

Well, because there are no land swaps happening in those area, because the only ones that will benefit from rail lines in that area are simply the loathsome rakyat Malaysia, NOT the lovely cronies who could give them millions and millions of kickbacks.

Mark my words, the only time you will see a rail passing through that area is when MOH ‘decided’ (read: forced) to sell off the huge hospital land area to some crony developer.

That will be a sad day for KLites because then we wouldn’t have a nearby public hospital (the land swap will probably include a harebrained deal of having the whole General Hospital rebuild at Shah Alam or Bangi) and the only nearby hospitals for us would be the expensive private hospitals where only the super rich can afford (like Prince Court, Pantai and Gleneagles).

God forbid if you are poor (middle class would do, really) and you get into an accident – you either have to choose between dying on the way to the faraway public hospital or selling off /re-mortgaging your house to pay the exorbitant private hospital bill.

Same goes to Plaza Rakyat (ex- Selangor Chinese Recreation Club), Pudu Jail area, Stadium Merdeka – those lands were swapped to crony developers way before the LRT was constructed (mid-90s) and they made sure that the rail lines pass through their lands.

What about the Sentul LRT Stations- why would the LRT pass through a much quieter neighbourhood, rather than the 3rd, 4th and 5th mile of Gombak where most people live? Ditto Abdullah Hukum LRT Station.

Did DBKL (which is one of the stakeholders in KL Eco City development) plan to gentrify Kampung Abdullah Hukum before the construction of Kelana Jaya LRT line? I often wonder why RapidKL decided to make a stop there when it would get a much higher ridership if they pass through Midvalley. Well now, I  believe I have the answer.

And now the same thing is going on with the MRT. Government decided to put forth the MRT to reach the yet to be developed Warisan Merdeka, TRX and RRI Sungai Buloh because, well, kickbacks. Rakyat didahulukan my ass…

Just a reminder what a fucking liar our PM is… (from 2011 budget)

large

Not one single sen of the MRT project comes from private investment, plus the MRT project has now ballooned to RM60 billion (and still growing). You think people are going to believe that the TRX, Warisan Merdeka, etc., would be funded by private investors? Hah! Last-last dari poket rakyat jugak.
